Tin is the best ceiling material for a veranda. The corners of the veranda should not be circular, and balconies should not have curves. Any flower pot placed in the veranda should be small, and no creeping plants should be grown there. Seating in the veranda should be placed on the southern or western side.
A veranda can be auspicious for a house if it is placed on the eastern, south-eastern, north-western, or northern side of the house, as good luck enters from these directions. A shoe rack may be kept there to hold shoes when someone enters through the veranda.
The south-western part is suitable for heavy furniture or seating. A swing should be placed along the east-west axis. Flowers and light plants may be placed on the north-eastern side.
Drying clothes in the veranda is not a good sign. If you must dry clothes there, use the eastern wall, so that you still follow the rules of Vastu.
Neither the veranda itself nor any wooden or metal items in it should be oval or rounded in shape. Square-shaped items are perfect for a veranda, and rectangular or triangular shapes also work well.
Vastu Shastra also suggests suitable colours for a particular space. Light colours, such as green, lemon yellow, or white, are preferable for a veranda. According to Vastu Shastra, the floor of the veranda should also be kept lower than that of the other rooms in the house.
A swing moving along the east-west axis is a good sign for your house. There should be no seating area on the north-eastern side of the veranda, and the corners of the veranda should never be cut or rounded off.
Any switch or electric meter in the veranda should be placed on the south-eastern side. Trees, flowers, or fruit-bearing plants bring good fortune to the family when kept in the veranda, but remember that a tree left to dry up from lack of water is considered an ill omen. Do not plant a banyan tree, as it is harmful in a veranda.
