The basement is a very important part of a house and a vital element of Vastu. The basement of a plot indicates how deep the plot extends. An empty space is considered auspicious. A basement is required for every construction, including residential houses. However, according to Vastu, a house with a low-lying basement is not considered good, so this should be avoided. There are a few rules for building a basement, known as the Vastu rules.
A basement should never be used as a bedroom, as this is not good for health, so no one should use it for this purpose. It is generally observed that a basement needs only limited light, according to Vastu rules. This part of the house is also not meant for residential use.
In fact, you may use the basement as a store room, or you may set up an office there, which is considered good according to Vastu rules. The interior of the basement should also follow Vastu rules, which will be beneficial in every way. The basement should not be built in an odd or irregular shape. It should also never be used for business purposes, as this can cause great loss.
The empty space of a basement should be on the Northern side. The walls of the basement should be 9 to 10 feet in height.
The colour of the basement should be white or any light colour, with white being the most suitable. Dark colours should not be used — avoid blue, black, or similar shades.
It is important to ensure that light enters the basement; otherwise, it will not be good for the space.
The best location for the basement is towards the West, South, or even the South-East, as these directions receive sufficient sunlight, which keeps the basement healthy.
The North-East corner is not good for the basement's position, as sunlight will not enter it there.
According to Vastu rules, a study room should never be built above the basement.
A basement is also not favourable for running any kind of business, as there is a strong possibility of loss. The structural condition of the basement is also very important in this regard, as neglecting it could otherwise lead to serious problems.
A cash counter should also never be placed in the basement, as this is not good.
If anyone lives in the basement, there is a possibility that they may fall ill, so this should be avoided.
A large mirror may be kept in the basement, as it helps reflect sunlight into the room.
If a hotel kitchen is built according to Vastu rules, there is a good and profitable chance of successfully running a hotel above the basement.
