Colour Wheel: The colour wheel is the wheel containing all the colours. Although there are three basic colours (red, blue, and yellow), many other colours can be formed by mixing them in the right proportion. Every colour has some importance and significance in our lives, and every colour has a complementary colour. For example, blue is the complementary colour of orange.
Vaastu suggests the following colours for each direction:
As shown in the colour map image, every direction has a colour. If a room is dark, a light colour should be used, as it will brighten the room. White is good for any room.
The colours in the diagram indicate the colour Vaastu recommends for that direction.
For example, if there is a room in the south, it should be coloured red. Similarly, if there is a room in the north-east corner, it should be painted yellow.
Here are some important rooms and their suggested colours.
| Room | Suggested color |
| Living Room | Yellow, blue, green, and white are the best colours for the living room, as these colours are welcoming for guests. |
| Bedroom | Light blue, light green, and white are the best colours for the bedroom. For children's bedrooms, green or yellow, or a combination of both, is best, as it helps children concentrate on their studies. |
| Dining Room | Green, pink, and blue are best for the dining room. Black, or any mixture of black with another colour, is not good in this room. |
| Kitchen | White or yellow is the best colour for the kitchen. Any shade of red can also be used in the kitchen. |
| Puja Ghar | The puja ghar should be painted yellow or white. |
Red and pink are the suitable colours of the Sun according to the Jyotish Shastra. This colour expresses courage and strength. These are the most emotional, dramatic, and energetic colours. They are considered to induce a seductive atmosphere of passion and desire. Red must not be used in bedrooms due to its energising nature.
Orange is the suitable colour of Jupiter according to the Jyotish Shastra. It stirs spirituality because of its elevated and otherworldly quality. It encourages joyful and social gatherings. Orange stimulates enthusiasm well in the dining room, so we should paint our dining room in orange.
Green is the suitable colour of Mercury according to the Jyotish Shastra. Green represents nature. It helps create a harmonious atmosphere that brings quiet and inner peace to the house. It can be used to create a calming space for people who are distressed or in need of refreshment. Nowadays, most hospitals use green for its calming and restorative effects. It can also be useful in a study room owing to its ability to enhance focus.
Yellow is the suitable colour of Jupiter and the Moon according to the Jyotish Shastra. Yellow supports mental awareness and clarity of mind. It represents sunlight, so if a room already receives direct sunlight, we should avoid using this colour on its walls.
Blue denotes Saturn and Venus according to Vedic astrology. It represents the sky. It provides a sense of space and growth that calms the body and mind. It is ideal for bedrooms or meditation rooms owing to its calming and serene energy.
Purple is the suitable colour of Saturn according to the Jyotish Shastra. It reflects auspicious energy. Purple encourages belief, trust, and perception. It is protective and pleasing. We should avoid painting an entire room in purple, as it might be overpowering. White is the suitable colour of the Moon and Venus according to the Jyotish Shastra. A white ceiling is preferable for most people, as it scatters light and brightens the room.
Colours influence our emotions and behaviour and also have a great impact on our lives. All the suggested colours are considered auspicious for enhancing the 'Vastu' of our home.
