It is quite natural that every plot and house needs a boundary. It is common practice to build a boundary around a plot before starting construction of a house or any other structure. This boundary wall will be beneficial for the house and the construction if it is built according to Vastu Shastra. The main purpose of a compound wall is to give protection to a house or plot. For this, we need to know the basic principles of building a boundary wall. Since the boundary wall is meant to protect the house or building from various problems and difficulties, it should be built according to the Vastu rules.
It should be ensured that construction of the boundary begins on an auspicious day, which is considered a good sign for everyone. The ideal place for the boundary wall to start is from the North or towards the East side.
It is also recommended that the South-East or South-West corner be a 90-degree corner, which is good for the building.
The thickness of the boundary wall is also one of the important considerations for a plot. In some cases, the wall may need to be thicker on the East side compared to the North.
The North and East portions of the boundary wall should be shorter than the other two sides of the wall. This is considered good and auspicious.
If a new house or any new construction is being built on the plot, the material of the boundary wall should be new bricks or new wood; otherwise, it may lead to negative results. However, it is important to note that the wood should never be sourced from a deep forest.
One should never sit or sleep beneath a pillar or beam. Iron grills may be used as material where needed.
The colour of the boundary wall depends on a particular person's choice. It may be a deep colour or a light colour, largely depending on the owner's preference. The best colour is off-white combined with red, though grey or brick colour may also be used. However, blue should not be used for the boundary wall colour, as it is not considered good.
