Haryana is a state in the northern part of India. This state shares its state capital Chandigarh with Punjab. This state is known for its multi-cultural diversity and hence celebrates all the diverse festivals across cultures and religions. However, there are some that are celebrated with more grandeur than others in Haryana. Holi or Dulhandi Holi as it is called in Haryana is celebrated widely and with vast celebrations. This is celebrated a day after Holika Dahan that is to symbolize the killing of Holika to save Prahlad, a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. Holi is celebrated a day after Holika Dahan and is the symbolism of brotherhood and harmony. People break pots and celebrate with Holi with colors and sweets.
Another exclusive and beautiful festival of Haryana in Gangore which is celebrated widely in Haryana. On this day, the idols of Gangore and Ishar are decorated. They are taken out by women and devotional melodies are sung along. Baisakhi is also celebrated in Haryana to welcome the harvesting season in the state. Some other festivals that are celebrated in this state are Teej, Diwali, Lohri, Kartik Jayanti, Nirjala Akadshi, Janmashtmi, Gugga Naumi, Dusshera, and all the other major festivals of India.
