Ambedkar Jayanti also is known as Bhim Jayanti is an annual festival celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. It is celebrated on 14th April every year. Ambedkar was the father of the constitution of India and a civil rights activist. Ambedkar had spent most of the life working for the upliftment of Dalits and those from the backward communities of India. The social reformer is widely credited to be the force behind the Dalit Buddhist Movement in India. He came from a Dalit family and rose up facing the atrocities faced by the lower castes of India. He made the upliftment of these classes and the abolishment of casteism his life mission.

Besides playing a key role in framing the Indian Consitution, Ambedkar also had a hand in the formation of the Reserve Bank of India. He was posthumously awarded the highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 1990. Several tributes and ceremonial respects are given to Baba Saheb on his birthday. It is a national holiday and observes any events and shows dedicated to the life and works of Ambedkar. He was an intelligent man with double doctorates in economics from both Columbia University and the London School of Economics. He spoke nine languages and was mastered in 64 subjects. He studied Buddhism all his life and finally converted to Buddhism in 1956. Ambedkar was the first untouchable of India to pursue a college degree. He earned a law degree and doctorates for his studies in law, economics and political science, gaining a reputation as a scholar and campaigning for political rights and social freedom for the lowest in the caste system, untouchables. In 1927, Dr Ambedkar organised and led a march at Mahad, Maharashtra that eventually helped established equal rights for untouchable people who were not allowed to touch or our taste the water of Chawdar Lake.
