Andhra Pradesh is a coastal state in the southern part of India. Inhabiting the Telugu speaking population of India, it is one of the most culturally rich states. Many festivals are celebrated in Andhra pradesh all year round but Pongal is celebrated in the most unique and grand way. Pongal is also celebrated as Makar Sakranti all over India. It is one of the most prominent festivals that marks the starting of the harvesting season in the country. Andhra Pradesh celebrates this festival in its own unique way. Pongal is the name of a dessert made by freshly harvested rice and jaggery and is consumed on this day. This festival is celebrated in a span of four days with traditional rituals and practices in Andhra Pradesh. Moreover, the people in this state celebrate Ugadi to mark the starting of new year and Vinayaka Chaturthi to celebrate the birth of Lord Ganesha. The most famous cultural festival of this state is the Visaka Utsav which witnesses various cultural shows and events for four days in December every year. Another famous hindu festival of Andhra Pradesh is Tirupati Tirumala Brahmotsavam which is celebrated in Tirupati temple for nine glorious days every October.
