Born on10th Jan, 1930 in Ajmer this Indian film director was also a screenwriter. He assisted the other leading directors before making his mark. Before that, he started his career as illustrator and cartoonist and worked for weekly magazine Blitz. His directorial debut was Sara Akash in 1969. His films were mostly critically acclaimed like Rajnigandha, Choti Si Baat, Chitchor, Khatta Meetha, Baton Baton Mein, Shaukeen and Hamari Bahu Alka and Us Par. He also directed television series Byomkesh Bakshi and Rajani which were the national hits that time. He received lifetime achievement award in 2007 and best director for Swami.
