The position of this planet is generally south west. It is also known as a dragon.  It is ruler over aardra and swathi nakshatras.  If this planet is not well placed, the persons affected are not well behaved and have bad characters.  In some cases, evil spirits have been known to take over.  If it is in the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses, it will bestow favor.

To keep this planet happy, provide lots of flowers and fruits. Fishes can be included as well. Wearing the appropriate ring also brings good luck and possibly riches. The wearer will enjoy good schooling and will not have any ailments.
Depending on who is its partner, there can be a solar or lunar eclipse. Both are equally beautiful and will not be forgotten.

According to the Hindu culture, Rahu is the cut – off head of the asura, which consumes the Sun for eclipses. Rahu is represented in art as a serpent which has no body, riding a chariot driven by 8 black horses. Rahu is one of the nine planets in the Vedic Astrology. Rahu Kala is regarded as inauspicious.

According to the mythology, at the time of Samudra Manthan, the asura Rahu drunk a little of the amrita, i.e. divine nectar. Sun and Moon understood it. They alerted the female avatar of Lord Vishnu, i.e. Mohini. Mohini cut – off the head of Rahu before the amrita could pass Rahu’s throat. Owing to the divine nectar the head became immortal. It is considered that the head consumes the Sun some time which is the reason of eclipses. Then the Sun goes by through his throat for finishing the eclipses. The body of the asur also became Ketu owing to a boon. It consumes the moon some time for causing the Lunar Eclipses.

There is an idea of True Rahu and Mean Rahu in the Vedic Astrology. Ancient Hindu astrology considers the true position of Ketu and Rahu.

Rahu mainly influences the brain and blood. It can also give suicidal tendencies.
If Rahu is a benefic and strong in horoscope, then it gives mobility, health, black money, dynamism and good level of awareness to the native.
