Bihar Day or Bihar Diwas is celebrated every year on March 22 marking the formation of the state of Bihar. It was on this day when the British divided out the state from Bengal in 1912. The Day is a declared public holiday in the state of Bihar. Bihar Day was started and celebrated on large scale by Bihar Government in the tenure of the Nitish Kumar as the chief minister. Biharis all over the world celebrates this festival with grandeur and extreme vigour. The day is celebrated with great enthusiasm with a multitude of cultural events in educational institutions and public premises by local people and the eminent personalities of Bihar.

Some attractions of this day include culture programmes, sports and extracurricular activities, painting exhibitions, handicraft exhibitions, sports tournaments even for disabled-people, etc. This day is marked as the celebration of Bihari culture and heritage. People make traditional Bihari dishes, perform the folk dances and folk music, dress up in traditional Bihari attire and celebrate this day. This holiday applies to all the offices and companies under the jurisdiction of the Bihar State and even Central Government. Educational institutions celebrate this day by organising various programmes participated by students and other guests of honour.

It is also known as the Bihar Foundation Day and every Bihari holds this day close to their heart. It is the celebration of the culturally and historically rich state of Bihar. It is also a political hotspot of the country. The first Mauryan Indian Empire originated from Bihar. This state is also home to various traditional and ancient art forms and handicrafts that are still thriving to this date. It is a beautiful and culturally rich state and this heritage of Bihar is celebrated on Bihar Day.
