About this Nakshatra

Ashwini is the first of the 27 nakshatras. Its symbol is a horse's head, and its deities are the Ashwini Kumaras, the twin healers of the gods. It is ruled by Ketu and lies at the very start of Aries.

Like its symbol, Ashwini is about speed, fresh starts and healing. People born under it like to act quickly and help others quickly.

Ashwini Nakshatra in Detail

People born under Ashwini are drawn to the opposite sex. Both men and women have bright, appealing eyes and a handsome face. Ashwini men are strong-willed and work very well. Their friends are grateful to them, because they know how to make others feel better, even though they themselves are not easily cheered up.

The Ashwini man is careful and logical. He is fond of music and capable of handling many kinds of work. His love of quality and style can make him spend more than he needs to. In family life he can be difficult because he is inflexible in his attitudes, but he loves his family deeply. Tradition says he is more likely to have sons than daughters.

Ashwini men have faith in God and respect the beliefs of others. Ashwini women are charming and speak well. They are polite and loved by many. They often marry young, and tradition says they are more likely to have daughters than sons.

They prefer not to work after the age of 50, because by then they have usually secured a comfortable financial future. Ashwini women are not troubled by many illnesses. Worry about life and small matters can cause problems in the second half of life, so they should keep a good balance and not make things more complicated than they are. A calm nature will help them greatly.

Natives can appear very calm, yet they quietly get their work done. Those born between about 14 and 28 April, when the Sun passes through Ashwini in its sign of exaltation (Aries), and between about 14 and 28 October, when the Sun passes through Swati in its sign of debilitation (Libra), can be extremely stubborn. It is said that even Yama, the god of death, cannot change their minds.

Ashwini natives born in other months are less stubborn. They stay loyal to those who love them and will not hesitate to give up anything for such a person. They need a best friend who truly understands them. They keep their nerve even in great danger, but once they are upset it can be very hard to calm them down. They are ideal advisers for people in distress. They strongly dislike and fear criticism.

The Ashwini native takes his time over any task. His work may be slow, but it is well thought out. He does not get involved in anything without weighing its advantages and disadvantages, and he is not easily provoked. Once he decides to act, however, he goes ahead whether the action is right or wrong. His calm nature hides a charismatic personality. Ashwini people love fine clothes and jewellery. They enjoy starting new projects, but they often lack the enthusiasm and steadiness to see them through. They lead healthy lives and have a great deal of energy and strength.
