Punjab is a significant Indian state in the Northern region of the country. It is home to the majority of the Sikh population. Baisakhi is the most celebrated festival by the Sikhs in Punjab. They celebrate this harvesting festival by bathing in the holy water and visiting Gurudwaras. Baisakhi gets everyone into a festive and celebratory mood, and people like to dance their hearts out. Special celebrations occur at the Talwandi Saheb, where Guru Gobind Singh recompiled the sacred Granth Sahib, the Gurudwara at Anandpur Sahib, where Khalsa was born, and the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The phrase Jatta Aayi Baisakhi is loudly declared across the fields by excited farmers as they passionately dance in celebration, an exciting way of greeting the harvesting season.
Hola Mohalla is another three-day festival of Sikhs celebrated in the Spring. It is symbolic of brotherhood and bravery. Lohri is another famous festival in Punjab that marks the end of the winter season. Lohri is celebrated with the beating of Dhol, Nagadas, and the singing of traditional folk Lohri songs. Children visit the neighborhood asking for treats and it is a festive environment. Other important festivals of this state include Gurupurab, Basant Panchmi, Karwa Chauth.
