Easter Sunday is also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday. It is a festival and holiday marking the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary. Many Christians worldwide celebrate Easter with special church services, music, candlelight, flowers, the ringing of church bells and with utmost joy and vigour. Easter processions are held in some countries such as the Philippines and Spain among many others. Many Christians view Easter as the greatest feast of the Church year. It is a day of joy and celebration to mark that Jesus Christ is rose from death, according to Christian belief.
Although Easter has great religious and traditional significance, many children all across the world think of it as a time to get new spring clothes, to decorate easter eggs and to participate in Easter egg hunts where eggs are hidden by the Easter Bunny and they have to find it. Some children receive Easter baskets full of candy, snacks, and presents for their family around this time of the year. Hence, it is a very exciting festival for children. Easter eggs and the Easter Bunny are both fertility symbols taken from the feast of Ostara. Other symbolism includes the pagan joy in the rising sun of spring, which coincides with Christians joy in the rising Son of God, and the lighting of candles in churches, which corresponds to the pagan bonfires. The symbol of the cross and images of Jesus Christ, through paintings or statues, are remembered on Easter Day or Easter Sunday. This is a public holiday in India and all over the world.
