Christmas Day falls on 25th December and is the grandest celebration in Christian holidays. It is an international holiday and is celebrated all over the world. Christmas Day is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the son of God. His exact birth date is unknown because there is little information about his early life. There are huge disagreements and debate among religious scholars on when Jesus was born. Christians celebrate Jesus birthday on December 25. Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas Day on or near January 7.
Many homes place Christmas trees and other decorations in their homes in the weeks leading to the Christmas Day. Some workplaces and other city halls hold Christmas parties prior to the holiday on Christmas Day. Festivities include exchanging presents, singing Christmas carols and visiting friends and family. Its a special time when children receive presents from family, friends and Santa Claus also known as Father Christmas. Christmas cards are also given or sent out prior to Christmas Day to all friends and family. For some, Christmas is a beautiful family affair, while others invite friends to a Christmas buffet or pot luck meal. Churches have special services on Christmas.
This festival is celebrated all around the world and especially in western countries due to the majority of the Christian population. People attend Christma Fairs, shops have special discounts and people wear festive warm sweaters. Hence, it is a beautiful celebration. Moreover, Christmas falls in the summer season in the Southern Hemisphere and hence, the celebrations and traditions are a bit different than in the northern countries. Whatever is the tradition, this festival brings more hoy and happiness to every home.
